This composition was made in 1988. I was just admitted at the Royal Academy of Arts in Ghent (Belgium). My studio was a room under a roof in a small house. ‘Taunus’ was made with square pieces of the colored floor lying around. I combined these squares with some paintings. The paint? Impossible to say, since I had the habit of throwing together all kinds of very different inks and paints in buckets. And then dipping drawings and etchings in these mysterious multicolored waters.
The car up side down is a Ford Taunus. You also recognize five etchings of the ‘Tractor‘. The pieces were glued on hardboard and I remember I used to transport them in blankets (a red and a green one) to the Academy.
The whole thing was exhibited in 1988 together with the works by 8 other students all living in the same street. I had the crazy idea to put them into a large white frame. That was removed later and now even the hardboard is gone. Still have all the individual pieces.
