At the Academy in Ghent we were supposed to draw. Luckily drawing could be anything. I used a lot of gouache paint. It’s opaque and has great reflective qualities.
This series was heavily inspired by catalogue photo's of works by Gerhard Richter and Mark Rothko. I remember I was the plan was here to draw a piece of furniture decoration in great detail. This drawing was ready after 3 seconds. For me it was a relevation that a painting or drawing could also be finished after only one or two strokes. It is one of the many artistic liberties the 20th century gave us.
