One of a few still lives I made in 1988. At the Academy in Ghent we were supposed to draw. Luckily drawing could be anything. I used gouache paint. It’s opaque and has great reflective qualities. It dries to a different value than it appears when wet. Surprise! I liked the directness of the quick coverage and total hiding power. Perfect for sketching. I think someone showed me a Morandi catalogue, but I was already completely under the spell of Richter. Here I painted some different coloured Tupperware.
